Notes Concerning Data Quality:
PAMZ data includes:
Data that has been subjected to rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes. Data collected prior to the beginning of last month will normally have undergone QA/QC processing. Raw data that must undergo QA/QC processes before it can be considered valid. The most recent data available on the PAMZ site is raw data. Most raw data differs only slightly from data that has undergone QA/QC processing. Significant differences are rare.
PAMZ continuous and passive data is also available through the CASA Data Warehouse.
The PAMZ website maintains continuous data for two years and passive data for one year. Older data can be accessed through the Alberta Air Quality Data Warehouse.

Air Quality Data
Air quality refers to the condition of the air within our surroundings. Good air quality pertains to the degree which the air is clean, clear and free from pollutants such as smoke, dust and smog among other gaseous impurities in the air.
Air quality depends on the rate that pollutants are emitted to the atmosphere and the rate at which these compounds are dispersed away from the sources.
The air pollutants monitored by PAMZ are consistent with provincial and national networks. Their levels determine the value of the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) used across Canada to indicate the level of relative health risk associated with local air quality
The interpretation of the continuous and passive data PAMZ collects is supported by basic meteorological measurements of parameters that affect the transport and dispersion of emissions.
Air Quality and meteorological parameters measured continuously by the Parkland Airshed Management Zone’s Air Quality Monitoring program are:
- Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) – Continuous & Passive
- Total Reduced Sulphur (TRS)
- Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
- Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) – Continuous & Passive
- Nitrogen Oxides (NOX & NO)
- Total Hydrocarbon (THC)
- Methane & Non-Methane Hydrocarbon (CH4 & NMHC)
- Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5)
- Wind speed and direction
- Temperature
- Solar radiation
