2019 Clean Air Day

March 29, 2019

Clean Air Day

Clean Air Day is a national event that encourages action on clean air and climate change issues.

What is Clean Air Day?

Clean Air Day is a national event that raises awareness and encourages action on clean air and climate change issues. It always takes place on the Wednesday of Canadian Environment Week, which is the first week of June. In 2019 Clean Air Day is June 5.

Why is Clean Air Day important?

Air quality is one of seven focus areas of The City’s Environmental Master Plan (EMP), with a goal of improving the air quality and reducing emissions. However, despite efforts to improve air quality, Red Deer has not met national air quality standards in recent years, specifically for Fine Particulate Matter.

Awareness and education initiatives such as Clean Air Day are an important part of our approach to improving air quality in the community. Whether you reduce emissions from your car, spread the word about the importance of clean air or choose sustainable transportation, we all have a role to play in protecting our air quality.

What you can do on Clean Air Day

Join us as we partner with various groups as well as The City of Red Deer to expand awareness of what we all can do to help make our skies a little more blue. On June 5th we will be at Kerry Wood Nature Centre to celebrate.

In Red Deer enjoy free transit. To celebrate this day, both The City of Red Deer Transit and BOLT Regional Transit Service will be offering free transit all day on June 5.

What you can do every other day

You can make a difference year-round by making small changes:

  • Check the Air Quality Health Index to inform your activities.
  • Choose active forms of transportation like walking or cycling – even one day a week makes a difference.
