June 7, 2017 is Clean Air Day

Help the Parkland Air Management Zone(PAMZ ) to make our air quality better on Clean Air Day and every day in central Alberta. Here are a few suggestions of things that you can do.

  • Reduce unnecessary vehicular idling by turning off your engine when you are stopped for more than 60 seconds, except when in traffic.
  • Reduce vehicular idling wherever possible by walking, bicycling or car-pooling to work.
  • Do regular maintenance on your car and keep your tire pressure maintained at the proper level.
  • Conference call instead of driving to meetings.
  • Avoid using wood burning stoves or fireplaces.
  • Take steps to make your house and appliances energy efficient.
  • Learn more about PAMZ and the air quality in your area by going to
  • Volunteer on one of the committees of PAMZ, your air quality monitoring organization for the Parkland region.
  • Take part in Clean Air Day activities in your local community.  For example, if you live in Red Deer:
  • On Clean Air Day, Red Deer Transit will be free for all riders. This is a great opportunity to try taking the bus where you need to go.
  • Take the Commuter Challenge June 4 to 10 in Red Deer and leave your vehicle at home. For more information go to and search “Commuter Challenge”.

Public Meeting to Discuss Air Quality IssuesRed Deer 2017/05/17

Have you got concerns about your local air quality?

Is so, come to a public meeting held by the Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) on Wednesday, May 17 from 6:00-8:30pm at the Snell Auditorium, Red Deer Public Library, 4819-49 Street in Red Deer.

The purpose of the meeting is to hear suggestions and concerns from you, the residents in central Alberta about your air quality, which will help PAMZ select air monitoring locations for our portable monitoring station in 2018.

Everyone welcome!

2017 Martha Kostuch Scholarship AvailablePAMZ Region 2017/01/31

Calling all High School Students Graduating in 2017!

The  $2500 Dr. Martha Kostuch Environmental Education Fund scholarship is open to high school graduates living in the Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) region who wish to pursue a post-secondary education in a discipline that helps us understand, protect and improve aspects of our environment, like land, air, water, wildlife and biodiversity.

This could include, for example (but not limited to) disciplines which include such studies as:

The PAMZ region in central Alberta ranges from the Rockies in the west, Highway 21 to the east, Rimbey/Ponoka to the north and Crossfield to the south.
