The 2016 Martha Kostuch scholarship winner is a graduate of Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer. Her name is Poshika Dhingra and she is an amazing young woman with a tremendous commitment to the community, as well as the environment. Not only has she achieved an outstanding academic record but she has also been an active volunteer at her school, providing leadership in many student events which give back to the community by addressing social and environmental issues. In addition, she has been very active in the Red Deer community, volunteering at the Red Deer Regional hospital as an emergency department assistant, visiting dementia patients at a local long term care facility and spending full days coaching new immigrant families.

Poshika plans to take a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology at the University of Alberta . She finds the field of Zoology fascinating because (in her own words) " it could have the potential solutions to major global issues such as conservation of ecology and the eradication of life threatening diseases in the world".

Poshika's career goal is to be a researcher in Zoology and a science journalist. "Bob MacDonald, one of Canada's most renowned Science journalist is my role model," says Poshika. "Just like him, I want to produce my own TV show and host radio talks focused particularly towards preserving wildlife."

The PAMZ Board wishes Poshika the best of luck in her future endeavors and looks forward to seeing or hearing her in the media in the years to come.
